Ministerial and Support Staff

Northwest is led by God and by those chosen to be in leadership positions.  Our ministerial and support staff share their deep love for God and people.

  • Randy Armstrong, preaching minister

I have been in ministry for over 40 years (yes, I am old).  I am married to my lovely wife, Linda for almost 28 years and we have 4 children and 5 grandchildren.  I received my BA in Bible and Communications from Lipscomb University in Nashville and a MS in Management.  I love the study and preaching of God's Word.  Ministry is always about blessing people with a dynamic picture of our gracious and holy God and our loving Savior, Jesus!  I am also a Professor at Grand Canyon University teaching in the Business Department.

I want to help you see Jesus through the message each Sunday as well as providing you with opportunities to deeper relationships with Gods people.

  • Kevin crossland, youth and Family minister

"I have been the Youth Minister at Northwest since the summer of 2016. In that time I've gotten married to my lovely wife Anna and had my energetic daughter Mikaela. My biggest passion is teaching the Bible. It's a daunting book when you're young and understanding it goes far beyond the first time you read it. Helping the stories of Jesus and all those who led to him come to life is what I strive for. Of course, I wouldn't be a Youth Minister if I didn't also like hosting fun events, trying too hard to beat my teens no matter the game we play, and eating pizza! I want to help your teen have fun, begin their lifelong journey of loving Jesus, and make friends they can continue that journey with.

  • Carin Mahkovtz, Administrative assistant

I have been a member of Northwest for 20+ years and stepped into the role of administrative assistant in 2022. After being a public-school teacher for 24 years this has been a welcome change for me and my family. Jason and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in 2023. I am thankful for my loving, faithful husband with whom raising our two children in Christ has been a joy. I have a varied skill set, with expertise in art, photography, graphic design, as well as business. I aspire to be a lifelong learner both in my everyday skill sets and in my love of the Lord. I strive to be a blessing to the Northwest body as they are to me and to the greater community.

Elders

The Elders at Northwest are men who care deeply about the lives of those who are part of the Northwest Church community.  They pray everyday for each person and try to help each one to deepen their relationship with God!

  • doug seaman

I am a native of West Virginia moving to the Phoenix Metro area in 1979 and a graduate of Ohio Valley University with a degree in business and religion.   I and  my Tracy (from Maryland) have 2 children with a total of 8 grandchildren, with a 9th on the way.  Together we own Arizona Welding Supply, Industrial Gases & Services a holding company that acquires smaller distribution companies and makes them a part of a larger organization.  I have enjoyed my 1st year as an Elder at Northwest realizing the eternal consequences of that mission.  “sharing the overseeing of our membership at Northwest with our other elders has very rewarding”

  • Bob winkler

I am currently a shepherd at Northwest church of Christ, using the gifts God gave me to serve the Northwest family.  I have been in ministry for over 40 years (I may be old, but I’m 20 on the inside).  I am married to my beautiful wife, Laurie and we have 2 children, 2 fabulous sons-in-law and 4 grandchildren.  I received my BA in Education from the University of New Mexico and I have completed a 2 year ministry program from SIBI.  The heart of who I am comes from Matthew 28:18-20 (The Great Commission) and Ephesians 4:11-16 (Equipping the Saints).  Because evangelism and teaching is my passion, Laurie and I now have a 501c3  called GIA Ministries.  If you want to know more about our ministry go to nwest.org/gia.  I love the Lord and His children; may we all aspire to be Christs beacon of hope for all.

  • don walding

I have lived in Arizona since 1954 and have recently retired from a work career in Civil Engineering, Surveying and Construction.  My wife Wanda and I have been married for 54 years, have two adult children and three grandchildren.  We have worshipped at Northwest since 1978 and I have been a Christian for over 60 years.  I have been privileged to serve as an Elder for about 15 years.

  • kent crossland

My wife Renee and I moved to Arizona from Illinois in 1983.  We have three married children and six beautiful grandchildren.  Renee and I have been active members of Northwest for over 25 years.  During our time with this congregation we have been blessed and encouraged by so many wonderful people who love Jesus.  We have seen many changes over the years, but we have found a consistent message of hope, motivated by a deep conviction that God is faithful to his word.  Serving Northwest as an elder has been a real privilege.  I would encourage anyone looking for a church home to consider Northwest.

  • Steven tucker

I was born in Ajo, AZ and attended the University of Arizona where I became a baptized believer in 1973. In 1980, I moved to the Valley where I met his wife. We have been married for 41 years and have 3 grown children and one precious granddaughter. I am a retired Civil Engineer.  I am a weekly volunteer at Terra Pointe Memory Care home, the Charter Organization Representative for Cub Scout Pack 526, and a leader of the Northwest’s Small Group ministry.  While being an elder for the past 12 years, I have loved having the opportunity to touch people’s lives. At Northwest, I love that I can see Christ at work in such different lives with different backgrounds, and yet we are united by Christ’s love which is greater than any one of us.

Two of my favorite scriptures are 1 John 4:7-8 (“Beloved, let us love one another…. for God is love”) and Matthew 5:44 (“…. love our enemy and pray for those who persecute you.”).
